ABOUT ME

As a former publisher specialized in art books, I especially enjoyed the articulation of texts and pictures. Let me tell you about the paths that led me to my work as an author and an illustrator.

I grew up amongst books, from Roald Dahl’s novels illustrated by Quentin Blake, or Michael Ende’s world of symbols (The Neverending Story), to French and German traditional fairy tales. Traditional stories and myths, as well as traditional music and art, keep being an endless source of inspiration. I gradually absorbed a cultural heritage of ancient myths and biblical narratives that was a key to access classical arts and music. At the same time, I always had at hand some Franco-Belgian comics – some of my favourite were the works of Tardi, of Enki Bilal, of Guarnido (Blacksad) or Loisel (Peter Pan, Magasin Général). Very naturally, I ended up at the intersection between narration and illustration.

After studying humanities, I started my professional life as an editorial assistant for the classical music production company harmonia mundi. Then I moved to book publishing, working for the regional publishing company La Nuée bleue, and from there I became Art books publisher for the Louvre museum in Lens. At the museum, I had the opportunity to contribute to several youth documentary books about art history.

The birth of my older son marked a turning point in my professional life. Trying to find more flexibility, I trained as a custom framer (Paris, 2015) and and started an independent activity. Shortly after, my second son was born.

I moved to the United States with my family in 2017, and discovered a whole new world: the American society, its culture and history, its music, its comics. After 4 years in Napa, California, we moved to Portland, Oregon, where I worked as a custom framer for two years. Now that the kids are older, I find more time for a variety of projects that I seize as they come up on the way, between writing, drawing, and music.
